Food Relief NQ is a not-for-profit organisation which supplies affordable and necessary food products to local community groups and welfare organisations. Operating from it’s warehouse in Townsville, FRNQ receives donations of non-perishable food items, or purchases unsaleable food items from a variety of sources and redistributes over 200,000 kg of food items to welfare groups assisting the North Queensland community. Registered welfare and community groups, such as St Vincent de Paul Society, Salvation Army, NQ combined Women’s Services, and Community and Aged Care Services, are able to purchase and then re-distribute Food Hampers to those in need at a far reduced cost.
Food Relief NQ is a vital resource in the food industry, as it is able to re-distribute unsaleable but still edible food items, that would normally be wasted in the community.
Food Relief is unique in that our region has virtually no Food manufacturing or processing facilities and so we rely heavily on the financial support of members of the Community who can assist Food Relief in meeting demands.
Over the past 5 years Food Relief NQ has purchased on average $ 280,000 of food each year to support the welfare industry within the North.
Food Relief NQ distributes to over 76 welfare agencies within North Queensland, from Cairns to Mackay and out to Mt Isa. Each year we distributed over 200,000 Kg of food to welfare agencies within North Queensland.
Food Relief NQ is the North’s own charity, with 100% of food and funds going straight back into the NQ community.
