Food Relief NQ was established as Foodbank Townsville in 2002 by Ann Bunnell and Brad Webb. Brad, as director of BM Webb Group, donated an 800m2 purpose built warehouse to serve as operating base for the charity. Support was obtained from other businesses, and by August 2002, Foodbank Townsville was providing much need food relief to the North Queensland community.
A change of name to Food Relief NQ saw the operation place a stronger focus on NQ, with funding from southern Queensland being cut. FRNQ was able to secure further support from local organisations and in 2017 celebrated 15 years of Feeding the Needy in Norther Queensland.
Food Relief NQ encourages manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and traders in the food, beverage to donate food items to FRNQ for redistribution to local organisations.
