FOOD COLLECTION
Food Relief NQ works with local producers and supermarkets. Although we receive some donated food—for example Walters IGA & Woolworths products that have reached their Best Before date. We also receive donations from the wider community. Food Relief NQ relies heavily on financial sponsorship as we need to purchase 70% of the food to be able to support our programs..
FAMILY FOOD HAMPERS
Our Family Food Hampers are our main support to the Welfare Industry. Each hamper contains approximately $75 of food products. When prepared it equates to 16 main meals and 10 Breakfasts, it also contains sweet and dry biscuits along with a variety of small items. Our hampers are prepared by a group of dedicated volunteers. In 2009 our volunteers packed 13,776 Family Food Hampers.
SHELF STOCK AVAILABLE
Our warehouse also contains a large range of food items that have passed the Best Before Date. This enables agencies to gather additional items not included in Family Relief Hampers. In 2009 we distributed 29,776kg of shelf stock to welfare agencies.
SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAM
In partnership, Queensland Nickel Pty Ltd, Townsville City Council and Food Relief have been able to supply 16,013 breakfasts to seven Primary Schools within the Townsville area in 2009. This program will be expanded to other schools thanks to the support from QN Yabulu.
HOMELESS HOSTELS AND STREET FOOD VANS

VOLUNTEERS
Food Relief NQ is supported by a strong, dedicated band of volunteers; our volunteers choose the day and hours that they wish to work. Without volunteers Food Relief NQ could not exist.
Members of the 10th Force Support Battalion, Vietnam Veterans & community volunteers assisted Food Relief in packing the 3,250 special Christmas Family Hampers required by welfare agencies prior to Christmas.
